Features

  • 100,000,000,000 stars (exactly)
  • Procedural soundscape
  • Now includes explorable planets!

Notes specific to PROCJAM24:

  • For this jam I expanded my existing galaxy generator to include explorable planets, and added the semi-procedural music.  You can view the state of the project before this jam here

Usage

  • Drag to pan around
  • Mouse-wheel to zoom in/out
  • Generally click/tap on something to zoom in
  • +/- buttons or slider at the bottom for additional zoom control
  • Optionally click the >> button to open a configuration panel and play with all sorts of knobs at different layers (note: different knobs will be exposed as you zoom down through the layers, and even more when viewing a planet)

Credits / Notes

  • Programming and design by Jimb Esser
  • Music by Alex Hamadey
  • Built using the custom engine GLOV.js
  • Source code available on GitHub (note: no license provided, all rights reserved by the original authors, just available for informational purposes)

Is this available to use in stories or games?

Feel free to take screenshots and use then in any way you see fit!  The generator itself uses licensed assets, some of which are not free, so can't be used in its entirety in another product, but if you're seriously interested in such a thing I could probably provide a code license and point to which 3rd party art assets also need licensing.

Holy Awesome! This is so cool... Dang...

Very cool :)

You should add creatures to this.

Yeah, that would be fun, will maybe add those during the next ProcJam ^_^.

Or... maybe there already are creatures, but they're very, very rare? :D

Very fun!!!

This is super neat, awesome work! I'd love to be able to download it, perhaps bookmark systems/planets, to use in tabletop games or the like.

If you use the Itch.io app, you should be able to download it and run it locally.  No bookmarking currently (although I considered keeping your view location in the URL instead of local storage and that'd implicitly let you bookmark / link / etc - I might put that on my short list of tweaks to do ^_^)

totally agree with the other comments, this is brilliant work, zooming in and looking for earthlike planets was really fun, would love to see this expanded on more moving forward, perhaps civilazations, animals, more plants and aliens  on some planets.

Cool!

That is great, and I know how much effort you put into this simulator especially the mathematical generator part.
Keep the good work.
